A registered nutritional therapist applies a science-based approach, using nutrition, to optimise and promote individual health. They may use functional testing to identify nutrient status and assess functioning capacity of other bodily systems to understand how these may be contributing to an individual’s health and symptoms.
Programmes are unique, individualised for each client with dietary and lifestyle advice rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. A nutritional therapist will work alongside medical professionals and refer any clients with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their doctor.
In contrast dieticians are more likely to work within the national health service or private clinics treating specific and complex clinical conditions in a more medical setting.
